This was my first time at HGS bringing family in from Colorado. Sara, the "local girl", renound bartender is my sister. We had Frank as our guide for our experience. We have 8 generations in Hawaii Ne and are proud Kama'aina and know our foods. This was the best combination of food and drinks that we've ever had. We were treated so wonderfully by the staff and the young, beautiful General Manager came to greet us perfectly. Amazing Aloha Spirit. If I could give more stars, I would.

We stopped by the General Store for a light snack after taking a tour of Makai Glass, Maui. My husband ordered his favorite drink, a Mudslide and we ordered the pineapple upside down cake to share! My husband was very pleased with his mudslide. And the pineapple upside down cake was so moist and delicious! We will definitely return and encourage anyone in the area to please stop by for the pineapple upside down cake! You will not be disappointed!

We haven't been back to Hali'imaile General Store in 5 years - since our last trip to Maui; however, it was as amazing today as it was 5 years ago! The food is phenomenal... I swear, there's not a bad thing on the menu. We ordered the Coconut Curry (vegetarian and with tofu), the Chopped Chinese Salad (vegetarian and with blackened tofu), and the Paniolo BBQ Ribs. We loved everything we ordered and, most importantly, so did my 6 year old. If you have kids, you know that a 6 year enjoying the food is the highest form of praise! We also got the Lilikoi Creme Brulee and the Pineapple Upside Down Cake for dessert. Don't skip dessert. So VERY worth it. The pineapple upside down cake in particular, was delicious. We ordered Tai Mais to drink and totally understand why they won awards. SO smooth and not overly sweet. If you're trying to decide on whether to get one or not, get one. This was our 4th visit and we'll keep returning.

First thing's first: I feel major love for the offering of a vegetarian version of a Chinese Chicken Salad. These are few and far between and it's one of my favorite flavors so I was thrilled to find one. However, the addition of tofu cost $6 after asking for it chicken free. It should be a substitution, not an up-charge. That said, the flexibility was welcome, with easy removal of focaccia and wonton strips. The tofu itself was bland--blackened on the outside but otherwise untouched. Meanwhile, the dressing was tasty, but only transcendent with a dash of salt that I added. Despite the minor demerits, the airy, bright atmosphere and warm service made it a lovely lunch. With a few tweaks in the flavor and pricing departments it could easily be five star-worthy.

Service was very friendly and nice. The crab pizza was delicious, definitely a must order. The salad was fresh and refreshing, but a bit small in portion size. The focaccia bread was soft and crisp on the outside. The ahi poke bowl was good. The fish and chips were good too, the fries were perfect. I wasn't a fan of the coleslaw with raisins in it. This is such a cute place. There wasn't air conditioning, so it was a bit hot while we were there. We came to celebrate our anniversary and we're given complimentary ice cream for dessert, which was so sweet. We tried the pineapple upside down cake, which is made with Maui Gold pineapple. It might be because we were completely stuffed, but we didn't care for the cake.
